Essential Elements for a Business Website

This is the digital age. People no longer find businesses in the Yellow Pages. They rely on the internet. Your webpage is the front door to your business. There are several elements to consider integral to a successful business webpage.

You need clear navigational tools. People are bombarded by online content and will not spend time trying to find info on your site. It’s important that the usability of your page is second nature to any visitor. Typically located at the top of the page, they should provide a passage to About Us, Contact Info, and Previous Work pages as well as a return to the Homepage. Another element that should live on the navigation bar is links to your social media platforms. Those are small and effective icons representing any and all social media platforms your company is active on. Placing them on the navigation bar allows the viewer to revert to your social media sites at any time during their tour of your site.

Your About Us section is very important. It needs to include the company’s mission statement as well as an overview of the key players. Include pictures or bios of your employees. Don’t worry if you only have one or two employees. Trying to look larger than you are is never the right answer. People are far more likely to do business with you if you have personal touches like photos and biographies. The modern buyer values company transparency tremendously.

A Contact Us section is imperative. Your address, phone number and link to a map should be clearly visible. There should also be an option to send an email from the site directly. Even if the About Us section has your email listed, you want the opportunity to contact to be right in front of anyone on your site, especially if the header reads “contact us.”

Bolster your site with pieces of your resume. Add career highlights from your company in small viewable pieces to provide credibility to what you offer. Your website will want to waste no time educating your potential buyers on what the company can provide. With clear navigational tools your site visitors will get a wonderful first impression of your company. Well-placed and easily accessible contact information paired with relevant past work will help secure the decisions made by prospective clients.
