How is social media a major tool in going against injustice after videos of police brutality began to surface? Companies take to social media to claim their stance.

Super Size InJustice

Several companies and businesses join in fighting injustice.

One of these companies McDonald’s, who names victims of police brutality, racist violence in a new social ad.

This ad follows Nike’s recent “For Once, Don’t Do It” ad asking people not to “pretend there is not a problem in America” and not to turn their backs on fighting racism.

Snapping Back Against Racial Vi0lence

Snapchat has stopped promoting President Donald Trump’s account.

As a result, the multimedia messaging app will no longer feature Trump in the app’s Discover section because Snapchat will “not amplify voices who incite racial violence and injustice.”

This comes after Mr. Trump posted this Tweet.

Twitter decided to start hiding some of the president’s tweets for “glorifying violence.”

Facebook Free Speech

Meanwhile, Facebook is not on the train because of, according to founder Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s free speech principles.

This is happening while Facebook is developing an Oversight Board, which will be filled with experts in civil rights, constitutional law, and politics with the goal of helping Facebook determine what to ban or filter out.

When will this happen? My guess is this would happen this fall in order to monitor the excitement of the upcoming 2020 presidential election.
